Well, it’s been a good while since last blogging on here, and I apologize for that. I’ve been traveling quite a bit as of late and trying to bring up two very busy daughters w/ my wife, Patrice when I’m at home. That, plus session work and whoosh……. time just seems to fly right by!
So here we are in November, ’05 and I am suddenly aware of the upcoming CJ3 CD release live show, and in anticipation have been reviewing the material – especially the newer stuff that we’ve really only played through once or twice.
I don’t get usually get this excited when doing gigs in Los Angeles but this one has me very motivated. It’s the first time in quite a while that I’ve been more involved than not in a ‘band’, so to speak. I’ve been doing just studio work for so long that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be part of a team - and it’s a really good feeling.
Ian and I got together a couple weeks ago for a brief rehearsal at his flat – playing through the CJ3 material w/out Jody. It was fun and helpful for Ian and me to concentrate on just the ‘rhythmic’ aspect of the trio but it was somewhat difficult at times without piano. We really missed Jody during those moments. Some of the arrangements are a bit complex and it’s easy to get a bit lost without chords and melodies reminding you where the heck you are - especially that one section in a very fast swinging 13/8!! Great idea Ian!!! lol
Anyway, I hope that if anyone reading this who is within driving range of Los Angeles, will try to make an extra effort to come and see the trio this coming November 11th. I know you’ll have a great time and will have a chance to meet all of us in person if you care to. It should be a fantastic evening and because it’s such an intimate setting, a unique chance to have a chat afterward.
Hope to see ALL of you there!!!!
